Manchester United was created by a few railway
employees in 1878. Originally named Newton Heath L and YR Cricket
and Football Club, they would have never guessed that the club,
renamed Manchester United in 1902, would become one of the best,
and most famous. For many years, United had highs and lows, never
managing come out right on top as one of the best. Then came Sir
Matt Busby, and the post-war Manchester United. Under his guidance,
the club reached the top, only being devastated by the Munich
Air Crash of 1958. But United never gave up, and fought back to
the top. Today the club has become the biggest in Britain, and
has a huge base of fans all over the world. The spirit of the
Busby Babes has carried on, and can be seen in today's generation
of United players, who have accomplished even more than their
already famous predecessors.
