Diego Forlan signed for Manchester United on
22 January 2002, after turning down the approaches of Middlesbrough
in favour of Old Trafford.
The Uruguayan striker signed from Argentine side
Independiente, for whom he scored twenty goals in the 2000/01
season.
Forlan is a strong striker in the Jurgen Klinsmann
mould - he's tall, quick and a scorer of some spectacular goals
in the Argentine league.
Forlan is seen as many as being the replacement
for Andy Cole, who joined Blackburn Rovers on 29 December 2001.
Diego was unlucky not to score in his first season
at United, but opened his World Cup goals account with a cracking
volley for Uruguay against Senegal inhis only appearance in the
competition. Unfortunately it wasn't enough to keep the South
Americans in the tournament, but Diego will return to Old Trafford
full of confidence.
